  1. THE DESERT OF STOLEN DREAMS: DJ - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears on the dust jacket of the book, "The Desert of Stolen Dreams," by Robert Silverberg, published by Underwood-Miller in 1981.

There are dreams I used to have that "Time," the great thief stole from me. And I'm sure that the great thief has stolen some of your dreams as well.

We are born with the power to create our own future, but not with the wisdom to use that power wisely. When my mother enrolled me in my neighborhood school I was four years old. I did not know why I had to go to school, I only knew that all kids have to go. I was not aware that I had "potential power," or that I was going to school to acquire the knowledge I needed to develop that potential so I could make something of myself later in life. At that age I was too young for that kind of thinking.

Some children learn quickly, from the very first day in school they pay attention in class, do their homework and are rewarded later on with lots of opportunities to make their dreams come true. But too many children don't listen to the teacher, don't do their homework, and suffer the sad consequences; their dreams become empty dreams.

    And Time, the great thief is relentless, it keeps stealing your life and your dreams away second by second, . . . Tick . . . Tick . . . Tick . . . "You wanted to do what?" . . . "Too bad, because it's too late now" . . . Tick . . . Tick, . . . Tick . . .

Screw Him! In my desert of stolen dreams he may have stolen a lot of them, but he didn't steal this one!
